Morphology and Nose Anatomy
We can smell well using the senses of the nose. Try to feel when you catch the cold disease. When the disease is cold, our nose is a bit hard to smell the smells.
The nasal cavity has three layers separated by a bone. The upper cavity contains the ends of the cranial nerve branches, the olfactory nerves (the scalp nerve). The shielded noses of the cartilage lining and the inner cavity contain epithelial cells that serve to receive chemical stimuli. The nose is one of the five senses that function as the sense of smell. The sense of smell is the chemoreceptors present on the inner surface of the nose, which is the upper mucus layer. The olfactory receptors are not clustered like the taste buds. The saltpitelium contains 20 million specialized olfactory cells with axons that are erect as nerve fibers. At the end of every scalp cell on the surface of the epithelium contains several hairs of the reactor which reacts to the odorous chemicals in the air
The nasal hair in the nasal cavity filters the dust and microorganisms of the incoming air and the mucus layer that traps it. A lot of blood supply to the mucous membrane helps to guard the incoming air to be almost the same as the temperature of the body in addition to moistening it. In addition, the nose also serves as an organ to smell because the odor receptors are located in the upper mucosa of the nose. The nose also helps produce buzz (phonation).

4.2 The olfactory process
In the nasal cavity, there is a mucous membrane containing the smell cells. In the scavenging cells, there are either the nerve endings of the cranial nerves or nerves (the olfactory nerve), which will subsequently combine to form the nerve fibers of the smell to bind with the brain fibers (bulbous olfactory).
Certain chemicals in the form of gas or steam enter with the inspiratory air reaching the receptor of the smell. This substance is soluble in nasal mucus, resulting in binding of substances with membrane proteins in dendrites. Then an impulse arises to the axons. Thousands of axons join into a bundle called the brain's nerve I (olfactory). This brain nerve passes through the lamina cribosa ethmoid bone into the nasal cavity and then synthesized with tracts olfactorius neurons and impulses are passed to the primary axle area of the cerebral cortex to be interpreted.
4.3 Relationship of taste and taste senses
If there is interference with the sense of smell, then we can not taste well. When a person suffers from a cold, the food tastes tasteless and we can not observe the smell well. This is proof that between the odorous organ and the olfactory smells work well. The smell of food that is in the nasal cavity can not smell because the nerve fibers in there covered by mucus colds. We feel the smell of apples is different from oranges and papaya because of the organ smell.
